Have super sewing day!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05244860592908090142noreply@blogger.com33tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649284727669642565.post-33282895079625832492013-04-22T16:42:00.001-07:002013-04-23T20:42:14.085-07:00Learning More About Your CraftAs the title of my Blog suggest I am approaching this wonderful craft/art carefully and with measured steps. Baby Steps. However, unless you have been hiding under a rock, you have heard about Craftsy Classes. I personally subscribe to almost every one. I have missed a few and there is always more wonderfully talented designers and teachers signing up every day. I watch for the specials and get the classes at a reduced rate when possible . If that was not enough, Craftsy has fantastic deals on major big name fabrics with the best designers. I have been stacking my stash for a rainy day. Love this company!! I will be sharing new sale information as I receive it here and on Facebook. Take care, keep your needles sharp and your mind sharper. If don't enter you will never win is my motto. I don't enter every one. Just the ones I really like. I received a little basket of lovely fabrics and two bag patterns. The Barcelona and the Cancun Clutch. Colorful zippers, too from Pink Sand Beach Designs. You will probably remember they shared their Hawaii vacation with one of their beautiful bags. A fun filled adventure.
Seams like a Dream sent me the cutest tote. Named Two Star Tote. Really like it. Very well made.
I received a really cute Small Quilt Kit from Fabrics and Quilts. Ready for my first Christmas project. Thanks!
And to top it all off I received a beautiful stack of Hoffman batiks! I was happy as could be. Then not to be out done I was notified this morning I had been chosen to receive the Cool Cats Creations Hoodie. Thanks every one. I can say nothing but nice things about all of you because it is true. Feeling blessed.

<div class="separator"style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05244860592908090142noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649284727669642565.post-79879371299265013082012-11-29T08:17:00.000-08:002012-11-29T08:17:12.575-08:00November FMQ Challenge

First I have to say "I love Sarah!", with that said, I love spirals. On this sandwich that I started during another month, I continued to do the spirals. Some are really wonky. However, by design. lol
I did take Sarah's class this summer and learned to do spirals. I tried to continue on the sandwiches I made for that class, forgetting what a horrible time I had using them. I made the mistake of using flocked material that I had been given. Looks pretty, however, my machine does not like it for FMQ.
Two days ago I decided to finish up this assignment and move on. I did move, or rather my chair moved. It slid out from under me. My butt hit the floor, however, it was my knees that hurt for two days. All better today.(Rug is now under chair and cushion is Velcro attached.) After spending an hour trying to get the tension adjusted, then figuring out it was the bobbin that needed to be re-threaded, I decided to just submit what I had already finished.
I will continue to use spirals.
Terri Lucas' tutorial was great, easy to understand and looks super too. Would have thought I could make a go of this one. However, something got in the way. A beautiful baby boy named Adrian. He is my Great Grandson. Named after his Grand Mother Adria, who is named after her Great Grandfather Adrian.
Going over stitching to travel is not my finest moment. Practice does help. I did this four times. You would think each one would be an improvement. Not the case. The one I chose to publish is the first one I did. New machine so there was a learning curve. Still trying to get everything set properly depending on the feet I am using. The BSR was used on this one. Stitches are too small for me. Working on that. So here it is!!
Yes, this month's block with Leah Day was more of a challenge than I expected. She makes it look so easy. There is not much difference between my two blocks. However, I did have more control over the speed and moving the fabric. Straight lines still are difficult for me. Practice, practice, practice. I will remember to use a contrasting thread so I can see what I am doing. Certainly not perfect, however, I shall continue to improve.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05244860592908090142noreply@blogger.com4tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649284727669642565.post-64008096389853041562012-05-03T06:22:00.000-07:002012-05-03T06:22:25.029-07:00Fabrics and Patterns of Hawaii

I obviously can't sew a straight line or a "free motion" straight line.
I did go over the lines several times. I was able to stay on the line most of the time....in spots.
Baby Sally probably won't use the tule method again. I find as a painter just using transfer paper works better for me. The tutorial was great. Enjoyed it very much. Here is my FMQ for April.
After struggling without the proper tools, I ordered the things I need to give myself a change to succeed. Since last I posted I've been to Vegas and Hawaii.

Really enjoyed this lesson. Mine is more than a little strange. However, I did not want to miss the
posting deadline.
It was so much fun attending Sarah Vedeler's two day class at the Road. I almost finished
my Pillow Top.

I have my machine setup for FMQ. So I still want to play with that for a few days
before I finish the embroidery. Loved the class. Love Sarah. She has brought a whole
new world to embroidering on quilts.
These are Sarah's Pillows. Hope to make them all. You can get her embroidery software on her site.
www.SarahVedelerDesigns.com Many more designs. Plus the awesome Be Dazzled Quilt Software!

All for now. Hope to go back to the Road in Ontario, CA. Sunday. See you there.
Going to be very "scraby" I believe the word it. All pieces my Mom cut to use somewhere or just that right piece to finsh that corner. Who knows. Funny project. Lots of memories coming up.

The pieces are shown below using the Accuquilt to square up. Rotory cutting is another option.
What in the world do
leaping lords, French hens, swimming swans, and especially the partridge who
won't come out of the pear tree have to do with Christmas?
Today, I found out. From 1558 until 1829, Roman Catholics in England were not
permitted to practice their faith openly. Someone during that era wrote this
carol as a catechism song for young Catholics. It has two levels of meaning: the
surface meaning plus a hidden meaning known only to members of their church.
Each element in the carol has a code word for a religious reality, which the
children could remember.

The partridge in a pear tree was Jesus Christ.

Two turtledoves were the Old and New Testaments .

Three French hens stood for faith, hope and love.

The four calling birds were the four gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke &
John.

The five golden rings recalled the Torah or Law, the first five books of the
Old Testament.

The six geese a-laying stood for the six days of creation.

Seven swans a-swimming represented the sevenfold gifts of the Holy
Spirit-Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, and
Mercy.

The eight maids a-milking were the eight beatitudes.

Nine ladies dancing were the nine fruits of the Holy Spirit-Love, Joy,
Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.

The ten lords a-leaping were the Ten Commandments.

The eleven pipers piping stood for the eleven faithful disciples.

The twelve drummers drumming symbolized the twelve points of belief in The
Apostles' Creed.

So there is your history for today. This knowledge was shared with me and
I found it interesting and enlightening and now I know how that strange song
became a Christmas Carol...so pass it on if you wish. I got this information from Temecula Quilting.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05244860592908090142noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649284727669642565.post-26577685164405454292011-12-25T07:13:00.000-08:002011-12-25T07:13:19.530-08:00MERRY CHRISTMASJust wanted to stop by and wish everyone a very happy and fun day.
I needed to get two Christmas cards out
yesterday. I wanted to make them with my new toy the

Vagabond by Sizzix. I have few dies, but what the heck,

I can do this.
So I am looking at my limited supply of paper and what knots
and happen to spy a new box of tags I just
bought at Costco. Oh, boy how cute they
are. I am thinking they would look really
cute glued to my blank cards. Five minutes later

I have my Christmas cards done
and did not even start up my new toy.
I did use Mr. Bond to cut out a very darling Bee.

One of the few dies I do own. I love the way the
machine just sucks the stuff in and spits out my cut designs

without me having to crank the handle. I see many days ahead

spending time with Mr. Bond.
I have been told you can use AccuQuilt dies with Sizzix
machines. Does anyone else have a problem cutting paper

with the same dies that you cut fabric with? Is this just

a carryover from the time we were told
“I will kill you if you use my sewing scissors to cut that paper!"
Sort of like the “You will die if you touch my eyebrow tweezers.”
Well, I guess we shall see. Until next time I have a random thought. Have a super day.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05244860592908090142noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8649284727669642565.post-84283815888818237972011-12-15T09:40:00.000-08:002011-12-15T09:43:19.257-08:00Words of Wisdom from Erma

“IF I HAD MY LIFE TO LIVE OVER"
I would have talked less and listened more.
I would have invited friends over to dinner even if the carpet was stained and
the sofa faded.
I would have eaten the popcorn in the "good" living room and worried
much less about the dirt when someone wanted to light a fire in the fireplace.
I would have taken the time to listen to my grandfather rambling about his
youth.
I would never have insisted the car windows be rolled up on a summer day
because my hair had just been teased and sprayed.
I would have burned the pink candle sculpted like a rose before it melted
in storage.
I would have sat on the lawn with my children and not worried about grass
stains.
I would have cried and laughed less while watching television, and more
while watching life.
I would have gone to bed when I was sick, instead of pretending the earth would
go into a holding pattern if I weren't there for the day.
I would never have bought anything just because it was practical, wouldn't show
soil or was guaranteed to last a lifetime.
Instead of wishing away nine months of pregnancy, I'd have cherished every
moment, realizing that the wonderment growing inside me was the only chance in
life to assist God in a miracle.
When my kids kissed me impetuously, I would never have said, "Later. Now
go get washed up for dinner."
There would have been more "I love you's" and more "I'm sorry's"
. . . but mostly, given another shot at life, I would seize every minute . . .
look at it and really see it . . . and never give it back.”
― Erma
Bombeck

I would have gone to see my Friend, Lee.
